    Alex grew up in the small town of Niagara on the Lake, ON. She played competitive volleyball, as well as competed as a rower throughout high school; this is where she started an interest in health, fitness, and weight training. She recently graduated from Queen's University with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology. During her time at Queen's she was involved in the Strength & Conditioning mini-stream, a program designed to develop both knowledge and coaching skills through hands-on experience with Queen's varsity athletics. Alex spent her fourth year training the Queen's Varsity Men's Rugby and Men's Soccer team in the weight training, conditioning, and recovery and mobility sessions. She is excited to begin her career at FL Sports Inc. and in the Kingston community

    Director of Performance

    Drew is the Director of Performance at FL Fitness where he oversees all of the athletic performance groups and is a movement performance specialist. Drew has a diverse background within the sports performance field working with NHL, AHL, OHL, NCAA, CFL, Track and Field, Military, Tactical Police and Firefighters. Drew recently earned his Exos Performance Specialist Certification and has completed all levels of the Exos Mentorship Phases at their facility headquarters in Phoenix. Exos is world renown for their expertise in athletic performance and training of elite athletes from all professional sports. Drew believes in being proactive with health and wellness and to deliver world class training to help his clients achieve higher levels of success.

    Certified Personal Trainer

    Dylan was born and raised in Chesterville, Ontario. A graduate of North Dundas District High School, Dylan was active in soccer and volleyball but was most passionate about track and field. He earned the title of 2010 East Regional Champion in 110m hurdles. He was also awarded the Top 8 OFSAA 2010 and Top 11 World Junior Trials 2010, both in 110m hurdles. His success as a young athlete made Dylan chose a career in the fitness industry. He moved to Kingston in September 2010 to attend St Lawrence College where he earned a diploma in Fitness and Health Promotion. Dylan is a certified personal trainer through CSEP and also holds his PTS, FIS and Nutrition and Wellness certifications through Can-Fit-Pro.

    He spent the next three years working as a Personal Trainer in a local gym. Dylan also designed and led Group Fitness programs for seniors through the City of Kingston. These experiences made him realize that his approach to his clients was better suited to a small, private facility and less to that of a big box gym. Dylan's main focus is Adult Fitness and he has a passion for helping people reach their goals whether competing in their first 10km run or half marathon or simply those interested in looking and feeling better. His clients have experienced great success in both weight loss and injury recovery and his gentle yet thorough approach to his clients has kept them committed and on track.

    Jeremy is currently the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach Belleville Senators Hockey Club of the AHL & Former Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach Ottawa Senators Hockey Club. Jeremy joins FL Sports with a BSc Hon Kinesiology from Laurentian University and is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach and active member of the NSCA. He has worked alongside doctors and therapist in rehabilitation of professional, amateur and general public clients. Jeremy has trained professional, minor professional, college/university athletes, as well as nationally ranked athletes in basketball, soccer, figure skating and football and was the Head Sport Performance Coach Fitquest Kanata Location for three years. The Kemptville, Ontario native also did his research thesis in the field of Biomechanics and Injury Prevention.

    Nick grew up in Kingston, On playing competitive Hockey, Soccer and Football.  After graduating high school he attended the University of Ottawa where he obtained his Bachelors degree in Human Kinetics. Nick has been in the industry since 2010 coaching athletes at the CIS, NCAA, CFL and OHL levels as well as working with members of the Canadian Armed forces. Nick is currently the head strength and conditioning coach for the Grenadiers football program and oversees many of the youth athletic strength and conditioning programs at FL Sports. Nick believes in teaching functional movement patterns in order to achieve the highest performance outcomes for his clients.

    Director of Hockey Development

    Casey Torres is the Director of Hockey Development with FL Sports and also serves as an Amateur Scout with the NHL’s Pittsburgh Penguins, who he captured the Stanley Cup with in 2017. Casey has a wealth of hockey knowledge and will be looking to build our programs with the support of the Penguins development staff to help make FL Hockey the leader in the Kingston and surrounding Community.

    Casey scouted with the OHL’s Peterborough Petes for two seasons, spent two years as the Video Coach with the OHL’s Kingston Frontenacs and five years as an Assistant Coach with the Kingston Voyageurs, including their 2009 Central Canadian Championship season.

    Casey has also led the Greater Kingston Minor Midget program twice to highly successful seasons, including the 2015-16 season, where they finished in first place and advanced to the OHL Cup Provincial Championship Tournament. During his time with the Minor Midget program he had eight players drafted to the OHL, one NCAA Division One Commitment to Princeton and an NHL Draft pick in 2016.

    Casey’s role includes private and semi private skills session and he is one of our lead instructors in all programs including Skill Sessions and the High Performance Power Skating Program. Casey is also on the ice for our Beginner and Intermediate Power Skating sessions to try and help build the core fundamentals from the ground floor. For FL Hockey's clients, Casey offers his vast hockey skills, knowledge of the game of hockey and his ability to help players get to the next level.

    Hanna Bunton joins FL Hockey after a stellar career playing NCAA Division 1 hockey for the Cornell Big Red, where she was recently named Ivy League Player of the year in 2017. She was named to the Ivy League’s 1st All-Star Team in 2017, 2nd All-Star team in 2016 & won Ivy League Rookie of the Year in 2014.
    Hanna has been heavily involved with Hockey Canada during her career, Winning Gold for the Under-18 National Program & was invited to the National Development Program. The former Belleville Athlete of the year was also named Junior Athlete of the year at the 2012 Provincial Championships

    Jamie is a major advocate of the "Mind, Body and Soul" approach to developing hockey players, consisting of physical skills, emotional attitudes and mental acuity. This approach to developing hockey players not only prepares young athletes for peak performance in competition, it also prepares them to become successful individuals in all aspects of life.

    His biggest regret as a player was not being prepared mentally or physically for the difficult transitions faced at each new level. His goal is to help the next generation of hockey hopefuls reach their dreams by developing the tools required to handle any and all challenges they may encounter in their hockey journey.

    Jamie is a former professional hockey player with experience at the NCAA, ECHL, Central Hockey League and European levels. He served as an Assistant Coach and Player Development Coordinator with the Kingston Voyageurs Jr. A Hockey Club for 4 seasons. Jamie has been involved in skill development for the past 11 years, specializing in power skating techniques and individual skill enhancement.

    Jamie has been the main architect of FL Hockey's power skating programs for several years. He has invested in continually being ahead of the latest techniques and trends in skating for the benefit of our FL Hockey's clients. Jamie also brings his wealth of experience in skills to our players of all ages. Helping players get to the next level while keeping the fun in the game is one of the many attributes he brings to our clients.

    Jeff Bateman was born and raised in Belleville, Ontario and grew up playing minor hockey for the Quinte Red Devils AAA system. At the age of 16, Jeff played Tier II for the Wellington Dukes where he was a league All-Star. Jeff was then drafted in the third round, 41st overall, in the 1998 OHL Priority Selection by the Brampton Battalion. During his time in the OHL, Jeff was drafted by the Dallas Stars in the fourth round, 126th overall, of the 1999 NHL Priority Selection. After completing three seasons with Brampton, Jeff signed a three year entry level contract with the Stars. He played three professional seasons varying from the AHL, ECHL, and CHL, having won an ECHL championship in 2004 with the Idaho Steelheads. After completing his NHL contract, Jeff was fortunate to have Canadian university eligibility and was offered an athletic scholarship to St. Thomas University (AUS) in Fredericton, New Brunswick. Jeff competed in the AUS for three years where he completed an undergraduate Bachelors Degree in Criminology. As noted by his hockey resume, Jeff is well versed in aspects of the game, including the educational side of hockey. Jeff is currently the Eastern Ontario and Ottawa Regional Scout for the OHL's North Bay Battalion and previous to joining the Battlion he served as a scout for the International Scouting Service (ISS).

    Jeff has played an important role with FL Hockey as one of our professional skills and skating instructors. Jeff's knowledge, passion, and dedication to hockey provide our  students with the most modern teaching techniques and provides each player with the fundamentals to achieve immediate and incessant success.

    Skating and Skills Instructor

    Jeff Foster joins FL Hockey as a skating and skills instructor and brings a strong playing and coaching background with him to his sessions. Jeff was a part of the Greater Kingston AAA Minor Midget program for two seasons including the 2015-16 season where they finished in 1st Place and advanced to the OHL Cup Provincial Championship. Jeff has also previously coached at the Junior “A” level with both the Kingston Voyageurs and the Wellington Dukes.

    As a player, Jeff played professional hockey in Madison, Wisconsin, Waco Texas and Kalamazoo, Michigan, before finishing his playing career with a brief stint in Senior A, for the Tamworth Braves.

    Jeff is an energetic personality who is highly engaging and kids and players absolutely love to be around him. Jeff will be on ice for our semi-private sessions and our power skating courses.

    FL Hockey is pleased to welcome Kingston native Jordan Mayer to the FL Hockey on ice instructor team. Jordan is a former 1st Round pick in the Ontario Hockey League & played 296 career OHL games, scoring 95 goals & 101 assists for 196 career OHL points. Jordan also spent half a season as a rookie for the local Kingston Voyageurs, where he scored 15 goals & 42 PTS in just 31 games. Jordan attended the University of Prince Edward Island & played professional hockey in Europe before retiring in 2017 due to a hip injury. Jordan is an outstanding individual, who brings his experience & skill to all of our hockey players in our FL Hockey programs & we couldn't be happier to have him on board.

    Skating and Skills Instructor

    Mike Dawson is currently an Amateur Scout for the NHL’s Carolina Hurricanes and joins FL Hockey as a Skating and Skills Coach. Mike has an extensive hockey background, which included playing junior hockey for the OHL’s Kingston Frontenacs. Mike played three seasons as a Defenseman in the OHL, amassing over 150 games. Mike also played AUAA hockey for Acadia and St. Mary’s while earning his degree and played some minor pro hockey to finish his career.

    Mike worked for Hockey Canada and helped develop programs used in coaching clinics and skill development sessions and will use his experience combined with his connections with the Carolina Hurricanes Development staff to help build FL Hockey Programs as the leader in the Kingston and Surrounding Area.

    Mike will be on ice for our Private and Semi-Private Skill Sessions as well as our power skating programs as well and will provide the latest modern teaching techniques to help individuals achieve success.

    Mike is a skills and skating instructors at FL Hockey and was drafted by the Kingston Frontenacs in 1997 and played 5 years with the Kingston Voyageurs. He was the team's captain in his final 2 years. Mike also played 5 years of semi pro in the EOSHL. Currently a Kingston firefighter, Mike has been instrumental in developing FL Hockey's programs.

    The key to Mike's success is how he relates to players on the ice. Stemming from his leadership roles in hockey Mike is able to motivate players of all levels to dig deeper while maintaining their love for the game. Mike was instrumental in the development of FL Hockey's private, semi private small group skill sessions and it's teaching philosophy, that first you teach the skating technique, then the skill and follow-up with where and how you bring that skill back into each player's game. In addition, Mike is a driving force behind our 3 on 3 Pond Hockey program. Seeing young players develop their skills while enjoying hockey like being out on the pond, is Mike's way of bringing the fun and creativity back to the game.

    Kory, a native of Winsloe, PEI, moved to Ontario to play in the OHL with the Belleville Bulls from 1994-97, where he was an OHL All Star. Kory was invited to both the New Jersey Devils and Chicago Blackhawks training camps, and eventually signed with Chicago's affiliate team, the Indianapolis Ice (IHL). He went on to play 8 seasons as a professional hockey player in the AHL, IHL and ECHL. Upon completion of his playing career he became the Director of Hockey Operations for the Kingston Voyageurs (OJHL) as well as the goalie coach of the Kingston Frontenacs (OHL).

    As a member of the OHL Goalie Advisory Board, he has input in all goalie development trends and teaching guidelines for Ontario and is recognized by Hockey Canada as a Certified Goalie Coach. He is currently the goalie consultant for the Mississauga Steelheads (OHL), Queens Golden Gaels (CIS) and Brampton Beast (ECHL). He also assists Rick Wamsley, the goalie consultant with the Ottawa Senators (NHL), with their development camp.

    Kory has been running goalie camps across eastern Canada for over 15 years and has worked alongside some of the most recognized goalie coaches in the world. He has helped goalies advance their careers to all levels from minor hockey to the NHL. Kory's passion, drive and knowledge for the game translates exceptionally well in his coaching, allowing his clients to achieve great success.

    Kory has been a resident of Kingston since 2006. He married a Kingston girl, Valerie, in 2012 and has two daughters, Genevieve and Natalie.

    In Kory's role as director of Hockey operations at FL Hockey, he is responsible for the development of all hockey programing. He coordinates our amazing team of FL Hockey instructors, to ensure we deliver the highest quality of programs and the most current techniques and skills. With Kory's involvement in Hockey Canada and the OHL, FL Hockey's clients receive hockey training that is built on progressing the players to the next level and a reputable connection to other organizations such as the NCAA, OHL, AHL and NHL.

    Goalie Instructor

    Mike Murphy joins FL Hockey as a Goalie Instructor after injury cut short is professional playing career. Mike made to the highest level possible in 2011-12 when he played in two games for the NHL’s Carolina Hurricanes. Mike never allowed a goal in his 36 minutes of action at the NHL level and in a unique situation, he is the only goalie in the NHL to record a loss, prior to giving up his first goal.

    Mike had a standout junior career for the OHL’s Belleville Bulls, where he led the Bulls to the Memorial Cup and was twice named OHL Goaltender of the year and in 2008-09 he won the CHL Goaltender of the Year Award as well. Mike was a 6th round draft pick of Carolina and spent five seasons with their American League team in Charlotte and he went overseas to play one season in the KHL.

    Mike works closely with Kory Cooper to develop and run the goalie program at FL Hockey.

    Joy is a co-owner of K-TOWN Physiotherapy as well as the head therapist atFL Fitness. Joy is a graduate of Queen's University School of Rehabilitation Therapy with over 14 years of experience in the field of orthopaedic and sports physiotherapy. She has extensive post-graduate training and experience in advanced manual therapy, acupuncture, dry needling (IMS) and advanced gait analysis for fitting of foot orthotics. 

    Joy provides on-field sports physiotherapy coverage for St. Lawrence College Vikings Varsity Athletics as well as Kingston and area high school football and rugby. She is also a term adjunct lecturer at Queen's University for the Master's in Physical Therapy program.

    Joy is FL Fitness's lead in physio and rehabilitaion services.
